Chapter Thirty-three
Alec watched Evelyn from across the room, for the last four days she had been flirting with one of their regulars, he had half a mind to terminate the manâs contract at the dock unless he left Evelyn alone. Tuesday had been some small chit chat while she worked, Wednesday she had spent her lunch break sitting with Travis just talking, eating, and laughing and Thursday Alec had seen him walk into the shop. Even though he would never admit it, he had watched through the window as Travis had leaned against the counter talking up a storm with Eve and making her laugh.
Now, here it was Friday and he had been touching Eveâs arm in a flirting manner as she worked but now as they sat down at the table together during her lunch break Travis kept attempting to hold her hand. Alec smiled when Eve politely smiled at Travis before gently pulling her hand away to take a sip of her drink, it was the third time that she had done it. Alec could tell that she was uncomfortable with the contact but he wasnât sure why. Was it because she wasnât interested in Travis or was it something else?
Alec hadnât been able to get her off his mind. He hated that they had both been so rude to each other but if it didnât bother her then he wouldnât allow it to bother him either. He wasnât sure how but he was going to get that damn woman out of his head one way or another.
She hadnât even had the decency to thank him for landing her a job. Sure, she still didn't know that he was her boss but she could have at least thanked him for giving her all of those job ads. She could have at least attempted to speak to him when they have been in the same room together instead of giving him one-word responses or avoiding him all together. He foolishly kept trying to be a part of her life, he kept trying to help her and impress her but ever since that day at the zoo she had done nothing but treat him like dirt on the bottom of her shoes.
He couldnât go back to Janice to get Eve out of his head and he refused to allow himself to go that route anyway. He had heard sheâd found a new party boy to play around with. From what Alec had heard, the new guy was just a male version of her, obsessed with drinking, making bad decisions, and coke. But even if Janice hadnât found a new guy Alec would never go back to her, she had no ambition, no dreams or goals for life, she just lived to have fun no matter what the cost. Janice was the cause of Alec going sober and he still couldnât believe that after everything that had happened that fateful night he had stayed with her. He also couldnât believe that she hadnât tried to change after everything that she had caused to happen.
